Apparently I was a tad premature in declaring myself cured of my wanton cowardice regarding certain images in The Exorcist. I watched the uncut version last night on dvd and almost saturated my chair.
I don't get it. It was always one of my favorite movies until I saw it in the theater four years ago and now I can't even watch it without feeling terrified. My heart rate elevated so much at times my body felt as if it was running the marathon and all I was doing was sitting on my ass watching the movie and playing with my gameboy (I have mentioned that I think I may have been a twelve year old boy in a past life, haven't I?).
My reaction to this film mystifies me. I'm finished trying to get over it, however. It seems the mileage varies on that whole 'if you expose yourself to that which you fear you'll conquer that fear' theory. Having been as successful at this as I was at trying to convert to christianity, I can now consider both to be failed experiments and not worry about either any more.
I have plenty of other movies to scare the shit out of myself with.
